About Cain's Book
Alexander Trocchi’s cult Scottish novel, Cain’s Book depicts Joe Necchi’s experiences from a Glasgow childhood through to adult life in 1950s New York as a scow captain and unrepentant heroin addict. McKendrick’s adaptation juxtaposes live theatre, film and photographic projection with formation dance interludes and music by Glasgow avant-rock group Smack Wizards. A continuous three-hour live extravaganza – there are opportunities to take intervals, yet incentives to remain throughout.
Cain’s Book was a co-production with The Arches, and was supported by Playwrights’ Studio Scotland, The Federation of Scottish Theatre, The Tom McGrath Trust and the Scottish social networking site KiLTR.

Reviews
‘… a mix of live performance, film, deliciously nihilistic little ditties and even an interval interlude of deadpan dance … You're left wanting more, of course. This whole project could get seriously addictive ...’ *****
